Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Dear Parents/Carers, Pontrhondda Primary School has been selected to take part in the ‘RISE’ Study about free school meals. This research study looks at how to improve school food in Welsh primary schools. Researchers will be observing a school lunchtime period, and your child may be asked to have their school meal or packed lunch photographed. No name will be attached to these photographs and if your child’s lunch is selected, they will receive a £10 voucher. Photographs will not contain your child or anyone else in the school. If your child is in years 3 to 6, they will be invited to complete a food-focussed survey about what they eat at home and in school, answers to this survey will be anonymised. This will take place during class time with their teacher. To find out more, please see the link below which give a more detailed overview of the research activities. If you do NOT want your child to take part in these research activities, please submit the form using the link provided. https://socsi.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9AAEoUoxY3Ds6bA
Dear Parents,
We are arranging a trip to Folly Farm for the whole school on Thursday July 9th. We need to have a fairly accurate idea of numbers to be able to cost the trip. Entrance to Folly Farm is £9.50 and the bus will be a maximum of £20 (subsidised) but this will depend on numbers. We aren’t allowed to make a profit on school trips so any charge would be influenced by the number of pupils attending, obviously the more who pay, the less the cost and school will also pay towards this to try and keep the overall cost as low as possible. Once the deposit has been paid to secure a place, the remaining balances can be paid as often as you like, with the final balance due by Friday 26th June
In order to have definite numbers, we need a £10 deposit per family and ask that we are informed of any pupils definitely NOT attending. Deposits are non-refundable, must be paid online and will need to be paid by Monday May 11th to guarantee a place.
Any problems, please get in touch.
Pay deposits online here:
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs A. James
Headteacher
Please note we will celebrate World book day on Thursday 5th March, not the 6th as in the poster.

Join us for some LOVEly fun!
Dear Parents/Carers,
At Pontrhondda Primary School, the safety of every child is our highest priority. To maintain a secure environment, we rely on clear routines that help us monitor arrivals and ensure all pupils are safely accounted for.
Breakfast Club runs from 8:10–8:25am, with FP pupils brought to the door and KS2 pupils entering independently. The main gates open at 8:50am, and FP classroom doors are open from 9:00–9:10am, FP pupils must be accompanied. Anyone arriving after 9:10am must report via the main office so children can be signed in and registered. Persistent lateness disrupts learning and requires staff to leave essential duties to unlock gates, register pupils and settle them into class as many are anxious, they are late.
Since the removal of the school crossing patrol, Pontrhondda Road carries a vehicle prohibition order between 8:30–9:30am and 2:00–3:30pm. Despite this, drivers continue to enter the street, block traffic, park/drop off on yellow lines, turn in the road, or use the staff car park to turn or drop children off — all of which put children at risk. These actions are dangerous and unacceptable.
We are proud of our pupils, who do their best every day to follow school rules and stay Prepared, Polite and Safe. We ask all adults to model the same respect by following the procedures designed to protect every child.
It would be lovely to be able to greet all pupils and families with a smiley ‘Bore da’ every morning instead of having to constantly remind adults of our rules and routines. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe.
Mrs A. James, Headteacher.
